Title: Study: Good Design Is Good For Business
Context: Design isn’t just a business differentiator, it’s a business driver.
Synopsis: Apple, Coca-Cola, Ford, Herman Miller, IBM, Intuit, Newell Rubbermaid, Nike, Procter & Gamble, Starbucks, Starwood, Steelcase, Target, Walt Disney, Whirlpool. What do all these companies have in common? They use design to help them kick business ass. User experience, branding, advertising were all key components of the design innovation these business leaders used to fuel their statistically superior performance over the competition within the past decade. The business critical requirement for enabling great design is no longer a niche competency nor a trade secret. The evidence is incontrovertible. You either get on the design bandwagon now or get on the unemployment line before long.
Best Bit: “The nonprofit created the DMI Design Value Index–a list of design-led, publicly traded U.S. companies that meet a set of six design management criteria. They measured the success of this design-led segment of companies against other companies in the stock market, and found that, indeed, those that put design first had a huge stock market advantage.”
