Context: The current importance of design in technology was not always thus.
Synopsis: Think different. That’s what they do, right? Well Apple wasn’t always the Apple that we know today where design rules and technology drools. Apocryphally, it was Steve Jobs himself who was the sole voice in the technological wilderness relentlessly driving the company towards the design led culture that they are renowned for today. Truthfully, however, it might not be that simple. There were quite a few other actors involved in developing Apple – and indeed Steve Jobs – into the driving force behind the marriage of design and technology that they are so famous for today. This was a structural change inside of Apple as much as a philosophical one. The whole DNA of the company had to be rewritten in order to empower design and designers to control its destiny. So how do you think that worked out for them?
