Title: Do You Know When To Communicate Verbally And When To Communicate Visually?
Context: Tell me, I’ll forget. Show me, I’ll remember…Wait, what was I talking about again?
Synopsis: The brain is a funny thing. The way we’re all wired (to a greater or lesser degree) means that the way we process information remains generally consistent as a function of our all being humans. Language, either verbal or written, developed as an arbitrary means of communicating complex information. Visual communication, often pictographic or pattern based, is a hard wired ability framed by a shared social context. But it is when we combine these 2 distinct modes of data transmission that the real magic happens. When we combine language with visuals we are often capable of communicating huge amounts of information in a very small space be it temporal or geometric. But how do you know when to use what mode of communication where? Here, let me draw you a picture…
Best Bit: “Evidence suggests that information stored both visually and verbally in the brain is recalled better than were the same information stored only in one channel.”
