To slot or not to slot. That is the question.

Title: The Mysteries of the Cereal Box: The complicated history of how a cereal box closes
Context: Sometimes small design decisions can mean a lot. But not always.
Synopsis: Did you have cereal this morning? Did your cereal come in a box with a slotted or slotless enclosure? What do you mean you don’t know? What’s wrong with you? Don’t you pay attention to the details of life? Hopefully you stopped answering these questions after the first one or two. But if you consider yourself a student of design (read: detail obsessed freak) you would have doubtlessly noticed the 2 competing schools of thought in contemporary boxed food packaging. Some prefer the time-tested idiosyncrasies of the fragile slotted design, while others dare to embrace the iconoclastic new school of slotless freedom. Whichever one you happen to be, we can all agree on one thing: Tony the Tiger could totally kick Toucan Sam’s butt in a fight.
Best Bit: “So that’s what the slotted style has going for it: It offers a false sense of security, gives you an excuse to cuss, and maybe keeps the bugs out.”
