Post-its as part of the design process

Post-its do not a designer make. But good luck designing without them.

Title: In Defense of Post-its
Context: Sticky notes: the cause of — and solution to — all of your design problems.
Synopsis: Most collaborative design processes are worth their weight in Post-its. Literally. They are the great equalizer within the confines of a brainstorming session, allowing participants to focus on ideation rather than electioneering. They are robust in their limitations and substantive by their ephemerality. Costing almost nothing yet delivering tremendous value, few tools of the designers trade are so necessary yet equally transitory. They are the vehicles through which we communicate concepts, aggregate consensus, and arrive at conclusions. Sure, they can be weaponized in the wrong hands but remember; Post-its don’t lead to bad design outcomes, people do.
Best Bit: “Design thinking is not Post-its, just as a photographer isn’t Photoshop, and an accountant isn’t Microsoft Excel.”
