Title: The Next UX Revolution: Transforming Stodgy Enterprise Applications Into Engaging Experiences
Context: Most business software is complete crap. Here’s how to fix that.
Synopsis: Your first day of work. You are handed a laptop preloaded with a bunch of productivity software and given some intranet links that are all going to help you do your job. An hour later you are already updating your resume hoping to get as far away from these horrible interfaces as you possibly can. The captive corporate user has historically had few options when it came to the types of software he or she was allowed to use, which meant that there was little incentive to improve the only experience users were going to have. Leaving aside the consumerization of the enterprise that is changing the locked down mindset, shouldn’t we as designers demand the opportunity to fix these things for our own sake? Our self-respect should require us to rebel against the path of least resistance and force change from the inside out. And as long as we stick together, we will get to the promised land one day.
Best Bit: “The next generation of enterprise software won’t just track, report, and distribute information. It will learn patterns, anticipate problems and provide solutions.”
