Title: Nine patterns among great UX teams
Context: The difference between a good design team and a great one actually has little to do with the design skills of the team itself.
Synopsis: I wish I could say that there is a fine line between a “good” user experience design team and a “great” one, but I can’t. The gap is actually wide and it requires significant work to move a whole team across it. And—even more shockingly—the individual talent that makes up the team has very little to do with the final transition from good to great. Sure a wealth of highly skilled designers is a strong foundation upon which to built a great design collective, but on aggregate, it is culture that invariably dictates greatness. The good news is that there are distinct, provable patterns that can be used to blueprint this transformation which feeds the cultural ascension into the rarefied air of UX greatness. No secrets here, other than commitment, effort, and dedication to process. The recipe for greatness is a combination of quality ingredients and a belief that the means will lead to great outcomes as long as you let it. So let’s get cooking…
Best Bit: “Great teams have a strong, unique culture, and they ensure each member fits, and improves upon, that culture.”
