Title: How to Win the UX War Within Your Organization
Context: In some organizations, getting buy-in for UX as a core business competency is fraught with difficulty and pitfalls. Imagine that.
Synopsis: Isn’t it amazing how some people inside a business aren’t willing to concede the self-evident truth that user experience is obviously the single most important factor affecting the success of their business? Philistines. So it is up to us to educate them I guess. And we must do so strategically, surgically and ruthlessly. Sun Tzu is too meek. Machiavelli is a coward. Everything you do in your day to day life as an enterprise grade UX warrior must be conceived and executed through the prism of victory! Conversely, you can just try being really collaborative and proving the value of UX through sustained effort and the building of cross functional goodwill. But it’s so much more fun to crush the enemy, no?
Best Bit: “Don’t be afraid to wear a different hat if you have to. If you’re an IA being asked to do Visual Design, do it. If you’re a designer being asked to do some requirements gathering or user interviews, do it. If you’re a developer being asked to do interaction design, do it. Never forget that your ultimate goal is to win the war!”
