Title: Are your users S.T.U.P.I.D? How good design can make users effective
Context: The quickest way to make users hate your product is to make them feel dumb when they use it.
Synopsis: The quality of the acronyms in this article are alone worth the read. The points made are valid as well. We tend to design for people in the best case scenario only. Of course everyone will have a top of the line computer with multiple monitors, lightening fast connection speeds, no outside distractions, have slept a full 8 hours last night and eaten a hearty and nutritious breakfast before coming into work, right? Of course not, yet we sometimes find ourselves optimizing for best case scenarios exclusively due to time constraints, resource limitations and occasionally even ignorance of the true identity and profile of the people we are designing for. It is certainly not easy but it is our responsibility to make our users feel productive and motivated and yes, even smart.
Best Bit: “People are ingenious at figuring out things they really want, but the simplest task is insurmountable to the unmotivated.”
