Title: The Mother of All Demos
Context: Giving a presentation that 42 years later is still considered one of the greatest demos of all time is quite a feat. He must have got all the chicks.
Synopsis: The mouse, interactive text, video and teleconferencing, email, hypertext and real time collaboration all seen for the first time in a single presentation. That’s pretty damn impressive. Even though the clothes are dated and the video is in black and white it’s still an astounding thought that all of these groundbreaking technologies were unveiled at one time by an unassuming engineer named Douglas Engelbart and his team of visionaries. The video itself is a bit long (1 hour 14 minutes) but it’s an important historical event that should be respected by computer geeks everywhere. Not that you guys are geeks or anything…
Best Bit(s): “…a calming voice from Mission Control as the truly final frontier whizzed before their eyes. It was the mother of all demos. Engelbart’s support staff was as elaborate as one would find at a modern Grateful Dead concert.”
