Title: Lessons Learned Designing a Windows 8 App
Context: Windows 8 is coming. Prepare accordingly.
Synopsis: Another day, another operating system update with new IA and UI requirements that force you to redesign your existing applications so as not to run afoul of the updated platform specific interaction guidelines. At least this ensures our job security, so I say: march on progress! Of course this also means that in addition to our day jobs, we have the additional responsibility of absorbing all of these the latest platform design patterns (unless you are lucky enough to work for an employer that realizes the amount of time this can take and frees up your schedule accordingly, but let’s be honest, none of you work at one of those places, am I right?) So, don’t reinvent the wheel, learn from the guys who have already had to build their own wheels. After all, the less time we spend learning, the more time we can spend doing. That’s how this works right?
Best Bit: ???The challenge for designers is to reconcile the Metro style design guidelines with the specific needs of the application and its users. In addition, the resulting design must be unique: it must convey the company???s brand and its personality.???
