Trying to teach old software new UI tricks.

Title: Adium Reborn
Context: Unsolicited (and attractive) redesign of a communication software stalwart.
Synopsis: It seems like everyone is jumping on the redesign bandwagon these days. A couple of designers take on the task of updating the dated, yet functional, Adium UI. Now some folks have argued against the unsolicited redesign concept as somehow disrespectful to the thankless task of designing against requirements, and while some have used this platform in the past to peacock their own chops at the expense of others, in this specific case it is obviously a labor of love. This is not a mere re-skin of the existing Adium client, this is thoughtful and innovative work. While you may not agree with every aspect of this new design, you should be able to appreciate the sensitivity with which it was carried out.
Best Bit: The “Active Input” field is pretty darn spiffy. Also, the full presentation is an elegant showcase of these new ideas.
