Paying homage to the timeless craftsmanship of superlative user experience. In Brooklyn.

Title: Made By Hand
Context: Nothing is more important than craft.
Synopsis: Invariably user experience design is associated with mass produced goods. I’m not really sure why. Maybe it’s because it is hard to fathom that something that takes as much patience, time and effort as quality UX must happen at scale or it couldn’t possibly be cost effective. Oh, how wrong this assumption is. The master craftsman working at the pace of his process, not technology, is the wellspring of user experience. Painstaking effort. Meticulous attention to detail. Almost pathological devotion to quality. The products that are born of the hands of a craftsman manifest their user experiences within the very craft used to produce them. Skill imbued with genuine love – not for the end product – but for the tools, materials and knowledge that it takes to produce something are the very essence of superior user experience. When the only deadline is “getting it right”, the customer reaps the rewards, and they are abundant in their clarity.
Best Bit: “His experience bears a lesson for us all: knowing you could fail brings you that much closer to success.”
