Rejection

That’s a really creative idea. Too bad it’s so f***king crazy we would never actually use it.

Title: Why We Crave Creativity but Reject Creative Ideas
Context: If nobody thinks you ideas are crazy then they probably aren’t creative enough. Your ideas I mean.
Synopsis: Ever had someone in a meeting roll their eyes when you presented an idea? What am I saying? Of course you have. You’re a user experience designer (or something along those lines anyway). Well the good news is, the more creative your idea, the harder it may be for people to accept it. The bad news is, there is still no cure for crappy ideas nor is there a way to tell the truly creative ideas from the truly crappy ones. But, the next time you have an idea that you are sure is right and a creatively innovative solution to an existing problem, expect people to not accept it right away. It’s in their (our) nature to simultaneously desire and reject creativity because while we know we need it, it also frankly scares the pants off of us. What we all need in addition to a boatload of creative ideas, is the ability to sell these ideas and convince people as to their viability and utility. So, good luck with that…
Best Bit: “The field of creativity may need to shift its current focus from identifying how to generate more creative ideas to identify how to help innovative institutions recognize and accept creativity.”
